Ed McKeever: 'Comfortable race'

Great Britain claimed two golds and a silver on the final day of the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg, with Ed McKeever at the centre of their success.

The 28-year-old followed up his success in Poznan last weekend with another commanding performance in the K1 200m.

McKeever led from start to finish to see off the challenge of Ecuador's Cesar de Cesare (second) and Tom Liebscher of Germany (third).

"It was a comfortable race for me today, but a few of my main rivals were missing,'' McKeever said afterwards.

"It's still early days and although I am happy with my performance over the last few weekends, there is plenty more work to do over the next 10 weeks.''

McKeever then added another gold as part of the K1 200m relay team, alongside Liam Heath, Jon Schofield and Ed Cox.

Heath and Schofield had to settle for silver in the K2 200m final, however, with the pair pipped to the title Russia.

Performance director John Anderson said: "It's been a very good day, and we are really pleased with the 200m medals.

"Ed in the K1 and Jon and Liam in the K2 have showed a great level of consistency over the World Cups. They have had a great winter of training and gone faster along with the event, which bodes well for the next period up to the Europeans.

"The gold in the relay topped the day off.''
