Miley: Took gold

Britain's swimmers took their medal total for the Barcelona leg of the Mare Nostrum tour to 29 with a further 16 medals on the second and final day at the Sant Andreu Club.

The men's breaststroke swimmers led the way and occupied every step of the podium in the 200 metres but it was World Championship finalist Michael Jamieson who came out on top in two minutes 11.21 seconds.

Individual medley specialist James Goddard, of Stockport ITC, was second in 2mins 13.68secs with Jamieson's Bath ITC team-mate Andrew Willis taking the bronze in 2:13.86.

Garioch's Hannah Miley and Goddard's Sophie Allen won gold and silver in the 200m individual medley.

Miley's victory in 2:11.78 was her second win in 24 hours after her 400m medley title on Saturday while for Allen her silver came in 2:13.51, less than a fortnight after she was second at the European Championships.

Swansea ITC's Georgia Davies also secured her second gold of the meet when she won the 50m backstroke, a non-Olympic event, in 28.32.

City of Sheffield's Matt Johnson and Roberto Pavoni (Loughborough ITC) fought all the way to the wall in the 400m individual medley with the former just ahead at the touch to take silver behind Italy's Luca Marin in 4:20.38 and Pavoni the bronze in 4:20.41.

Jess Lloyd (City of Manchester) missed gold in the 100m freestyle by just 0.07 behind Canada's Victoria Poon in 55.49 while Swansea's Jemma Lowe and Miley were second and third in the 200m butterfly.

Lowe also finished among the medals in the 50m Butterfly after posting a time of 26.94 to take the bronze behind Silvia Di Pietro and Katerine Savard while Stacey Tadd, of Bath, was second behind Spain's Marina Garcia in the 100m breaststroke in 1:09.43.

Swansea ITC's Jazmin Carlin also picked up a silver medal in the 400m freestyle (4:10.52) in a final from which double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington opted to withdraw - as had been planned - after setting a time of 4:09.21.

Jack Burnell (Loughborough ITC) was third in the 1,500m freestyle in 15:24.42 won by former European champion Sebastien Rouault while David Carry, of Stockport ITC, was joint third in the 200m freestyle in 1:49.83.
