The Nationals were too good for Toronto

National League East leaders the Washington Nationals defeated the Toronto Blue Jays as they put together 14 hits on the way to a 6-3 victory.

Edwin Jackson was stingy for the Nats, allowing just four hits before departing the scene during the ninth inning.

Bryce Harper contributed three hits and as many runs in four at-bats.

The New York Yankees followed their series sweep against city rivals the Mets with a 3-0 defeat of the Atlanta Braves.

Ivan Nova delivered seven clean frames as the Yankees moved level with American League East leaders the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Miami Marlins snapped a six-game losing run as they turned the Boston Red Sox 4-1.

Starter Josh Johnson conceded a single run in his seven-inning stay, with three runs in the bottom of the first opening up a winning margin from the off.

In the night's other game, the Los Angeles Angels battled back from 2-0 down to defeat local rivals the Dodgers 3-2, Mike Trout proving the hero with a home run in the fourth, singling a run for Erick Aybar in the sixth and then scoring on Albert Pujols' single in the ninth.
