The famous Whitaker showjumping family made its mark on the British Jumping Derby meeting at Hickstead on Thursday.
Steven Whitaker and William Whitaker took the International Arena's feature classes as the build-up began in earnest towards Sunday's Carpetright Derby, which carries a £40,000 prize for the winner.
Steven Whitaker retained his title in the Stoner Jewellers Vase speed class, guiding Royal Rose to victory after clocking 77.65 seconds, almost a second quicker than runner-up Guy Williams.
And then William Whitaker, nephew of Olympians John and Michael Whitaker, landed the Bunn Leisure Derby Tankard.
Whitaker proved quickest in the jump-off aboard Fandango, recording a time of 37.27 seconds, which was enough to comfortably defeat an in-form Louise Pavitt, while Tim Davies was third.
Friday's Hickstead showpiece is the Bunn Leisure Derby Trial, which was won last year by British Nations Cup rider Peter Charles.
