Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer and Kelly Johnson added a solo shot as the Toronto Blue Jays handed the Oakland Athletics a 10-4 defeat in the American League.

Defeat brought to an end a seven-game winning streak for the Athletics, Johnson going 2 for 4 with two RBIs as the Blue Jays avoided a three-game sweep and rebounded from Wednesday's 16-0 loss.

Travis Snider had two hits and two RBIs, driving in the tying run with a squeeze bunt, and Brett Lawrie scored three runs.

The Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 as Chris Tillman took a three-hitter into the seventh inning.

Chris Davis homered and drove in four runs as Baltimore avoided a three-game sweep.

Nick Markakis had two hits for the Orioles, who had scored only one run in each of their three previous games.

The Cleveland Indians won 5-3 over the Detroit Tigers as Asdrubal Cabrera singled home the go-ahead run in a four-run seventh inning.

Carlos Santana and Travis Hafner tied it at 3 by homering on the first two pitches of the inning by Justin Verlander (11-6).

Joe Smith (7-2) threw two pitches to get the win. He got Miguel Cabrera to ground into an inning-ending double play in the top half.

In the National League the Los Angeles Dodgers lost their second straight game since acquiring Hanley Ramirez as the St Louis Cardinals won 7-4.

Ramirez, obtained a day earlier from Miami, started at third base and had an infield hit, two walks and a steal, and he hit into a double-play grounder.

David Freese and Matt Carpenter had three hits for the Cardinals.

Edwin Jackson pitched seven scoreless innings to help the Washington Nationals record an 8-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Steve Lombardozzi hit a three-run triple as Washington sent Milwaukee to a seventh consecutive loss.

Starling Marte homered on his first major league pitch to help Pittsburgh beat Houston 5-3 in what was a 10th straight loss for the Astros.

Pirates starter A.J. Burnett (12-3) shut out Houston until two solo homers in the eighth. Burnett went 7 1-3 innings, striking out five.

Seattle won 4-1 against Kansas City and the New York Mets defeated Arizona 3-1.
