Nathan Brown: Not getting carried away

Nathan Brown: Not getting carried away

Coach Nathan Brown warned his Huddersfield youngsters not to get carried away after they handed out a 12-try thrashing to newly-promoted Widnes.

Academy products Leroy Cudjoe and Luke George did the damage for Huddersfield, scoring seven tries between them in a 66-6 romp.

The Giants face Warrington on Saturday and Brown said: "They're a different type of opposition and our younger guys might get picked on a bit more.

"So they need to keep their feet on the ground. But it was pleasing that all the players, from young to old, contributed to a good win."

The side also featured an all-English backline of mostly homegrown talents, with Brown adding: "I think we're the only side in the competition who can say that.

"The club decided to take that route a few years ago and it's great that so many players from the academy have come through and are doing well."

Almost constant one-way traffic saw Cudjoe get four tries, George three and further touchdowns for players including Luke Robinson and Greg Eden.

Brown's opposite number Denis Betts was in awe of Huddersfield and added: "We were put to the sword by a top-four or -six side.

"They've got attacking power all over the field and it's a good sign of what's happening at Huddersfield that so many of them are homegrown."

He said of his own side's display: "I don't think we saw much of a performance from anyone.

"I won't relish watching the DVD as there won't be many occasions where I'm not going to think there's something we can't improve on.

"The only positive is it's our second game and we're going to get better. Across the board we've got players who are growing into this league."
