Jones-Bishop: Among the scorers for Leeds

Last season's beaten finalists Leeds were given a fright by Salford before reaching the quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup 16-10.

The world champions were held 6-6 at the break but scraped through thanks to tries from Ben Jones-Bishop and Shaun Lunt in the second half.

The battling Reds had gone ahead with a Lee Jewitt try, cancelled out by Brent Webb just before the interval.

Hooker David Faiumu scored one and made another on his 100th appearance for the Giants as Huddersfield cruised into the quarter-finals at the expense of Swinton 52-0.

The former North Queensland Cowboys star collected Luke O'Donnell's rollback near the Swinton tryline on 12 minutes and darted over to help put the home side 12-0 up.

Danny Brough, Jamie Cording (2), Jason Chan, Lee Gilmour, Greg Eden (2) and Scott Grix also got on the scoresheet.

London Broncos survived a major scare from John Kear's part-time Batley side to book their place in the quarter-finals after a 22-16 win.

The Londoners overcame horrendous weather conditions at Mount Pleasant and enthusiastic opponents to grind out a hard-fought victory in a fifth-round tie played in constant driving rain.

Australian half-back Craig Gower led the Broncos' efforts on his 34th birthday as the Super League outfit claimed their first win away from home for almost 12 months to deny Kear, a cup winner with both Sheffield Eagles and Hull, another famous scalp.

Leigh are through to the last eight after gaining a dramatic 19-18 win in extra time over Championship rivals Halifax at Leigh Sports Village.

Halifax, beaten at home by the Centurions earlier this month, led 16-6 at half-time after scoring tries through Anthony Thackray, Rob Worrincy and Lee Paterson, with John Duffy replying for the home side.

Leigh edged in front with the aid of tries from Tommy Goulden and James Laithwaite, with Martyn Ridyard adding a third goal, before a Paul Handforth penalty a minute before the end of normal time tied the scores.

That sent the tie into extra time and Ridyard settled it with a drop goal seven minutes later.

Joel Monaghan scored a hat-trick of tries as Warrington secured a safe passage into the quarter-finals by defeating Bradford 32-16 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday.

Bradford were clinging to a 6-4 lead four minutes before half-time but the Wolves, back-to-back Wembley winners in 2009 and 2010, found their scoring touch to run in four tries in 14 minutes and establish an unassailable 26-6 lead.

Australian winger Monaghan scored two of them on his way to completing a hat-trick to settle a fifth-round tie which will be best remembered for the whistle-happy display of referee James Child.

Ryan Atkins, Brett Hodgson and Chris Riley also scored tries for the hosts while Adrian Purtell, Keith Lulia and Olivier Elima crossed for the visitors.

In Saturday's other game, Catalan Dragons also cruised into the sixth round with an easy 68-6 win at home to Sheffield Eagles.

The Super League side ran in 12 tries to advance without needing to get out of second gear.

Damien Cardace scored a hat-trick of tries while Thomas Bosc, Leon Pryce and Eloi Pelissier were all on target twice in the rout.

Scott Dureau converted 10 of the tries, while Vinny Finigan scored the only try for the Co-operative Championship side.

On Friday night, Jonny Lomax led the way as St Helens strolled to a 14-try, 76-0 victory over Co-operative Championship One part-timers Oldham.

Lomax finished with 28 points following two tries and 10 goals for Saints, who led 38-0 at half-time.

Oldham, the only Championship One side left in the tournament, forfeited home advantage to attract a bigger crowd and had the consolation of a share of the 5,746 gate at Langtree Park.

Holders Wigan survived an uncomfortable night at the Bigfellas Stadium to see off a brave but battered Featherstone 32-16 to clinch their place in the quarter-finals.

Fresh from their euphoric 23-16 victory over Super League neighbours Castleford, Rovers eyed an even bigger scalp when they twice held the lead in the fifth-round tie.

The Championship part-timers managed to keep a tight rein on danger man Sam Tomkins and were still in the hunt until Warriors winger Josh Charnley went over for his 16th try of the season on 64 minutes to enable coach Shaun Wane to breathe easily.

Second-rower Gareth Hock then made sure two minutes from the end with his second try of the match but Rovers coach Daryl Powell will be mightily proud of his players' efforts.

  • The draw for the quarter-finals takes place at 0820 BST on Tuesday.
