An under-strength Warrington were made to dig deep before eventually seeing off Salford 24-20 to move to within one point of Stobart Super League leaders Wigan.

The Wolves, missing several first-team players, were trailing 10-4 for most of the first half but they went two points ahead on the stroke of half-time thanks to Rhys Williams' second try.

Second-half scores from Ben Currie and Garreth Carvell seemed to end the game as a contest but the Wolves were left hanging on after Daniel Holdsworth and Danny Williams both touched down.

The Wolves, who were beaten by the Reds in the corresponding fixture last year, were able to just about close out the game and condemn Salford to a fifth successive defeat.

Michael Platt crossed for four tries as Bradford Bulls came from behind to stun London Broncos 29-22 at the Matchroom Stadium.

Platt claimed a double in either half as the Bulls erased an early 16-0 deficit to claim a deserved triumph.

The Londoners took the lead inside three minutes, Matt Cook bursting through two tackles to tee up full-back Michael Robertson to speed home.

The hosts doubled their lead minutes later, Cook himself rumbling over after Michael Witt had made an earlier break.

Things got even better for the Londoners on 10 minutes, Michael Channing diving over after Witt created the space.

Bradford needed inspiration and they got it on 18 minutes when the pair combined for the Bulls' first score, Pryce claiming Gale's kick to touch down.

Platt then muscled over despite three would-be tacklers to reduce the deficit to one score.

Witt struck first for the home side after a break from Chris Bailey, but that was quickly cancelled out by Platt's second, as he showed great strength to wrestle his way over in the corner.

Moments after the restart the visitors hauled themselves level, Platt claiming his hat-trick when he squeezed over after a flowing move.

Bradford finally took the lead for the first time on 62 minutes, Platt claiming his fourth with another similar score, struggling over the line after the ball was shipped along the backs.

Gale then booted a penalty with 10 minutes remaining and added a late drop goal to seal the two points.

Huddersfield missed the chance to return to the top of the table as Catalan Dragons held onto their unbeaten home record with a 27-20 victory on Saturday.

The lead changed hands six times before a drop goal from Thomas Bosc edged the Dragons in front five minutes from the end and centre Vincent Duport made sure of a precious victory with his side's fifth try three minutes later.

The Dragons' hard-fought victory puts them just two points behind Wigan and Huddersfield with a game in hand, but some of the gloss was taken from it with the loss of influential scrum-half Scott Dureau with a knee injury.

Clint Greenshields, Remi Casty, Leon Pryce, Vincent Duport and Damien Cardace all claimed tries for the hosts, with Luke Robinson, Joe Wardle, Scott Grix and Dale Ferguson crossing for the Giants.

Two scintillating tries by England winger Tom Briscoe helped his Hull FC side to a first win against Leeds in five years as they won 34-20 at the KC Stadium.

Hull ended an 11-game losing streak against the reigning champions that stretched back to 2007, while also halting a run of impressive results of late for the Rhinos.

The win lifts Hull to within three points of league leaders Wigan, while Leeds stay in seventh a further three points behind.

The game had remained in the balance for long periods until Briscoe settled the result with an 80-minute breakaway try in front of watching national team coach Steve McNamara.

To compound Leeds' woes teenager Ben Crooks, son of FC great Lee Crooks, then made the scoreline look even more flattering with his first career try in the closing minutes.

Will Sharp and Danny Tickle - who landed seven kicks - also claimed tries for the hosts, while the Rhinos' response came from Ben Jones-Bishop, Danny McGuire, Ryan Hall and Carl Ablett plus two kicks from Kevin Sinfield.

Wigan had returned to the top with a 36-22 win over Hull KR on Friday night.

Josh Charnley led the way for the Warriors with a hat-trick of tries, while Anthony Gelling added two of his own.

Lee Mossop and Sam Tomkins also scored tries for the home side, who raced into a 26-0 lead.

Rovers put up a better fight in the second half, Kris Welham, Shannon McDonnell and Josh Hodgson adding to Ben Galea's first-half try, but Wigan proved too good.

The win takes them level on points with Huddersfield, who have a game in hand, but the Warriors head the table courtesy of their greater points difference.

During the game referee Phil Bentham left the field, following a collision with full-back Shannon McDonnell, on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg.

In the night's other match, St Helens - next weekend's opponents for Wigan in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals - brushed aside Wakefield with a eight-try show to notch their third league win in a row.

Chris Flannery swept over for a hat-trick and Sol Soliola crossed twice as Saints warmed up for Saturday's showdown in style with a 38-12 win.

Wakefield trailed 22-6 at half-time with James Roby scoring a memorable long-range try for Saints in the second half.

Jonny Lomax and Tom Makinson also crossed the whitewash for the hosts. Wakefield's tries came via Dean Collis and Peter Fox.
