Chase: Catching the eye of Wigan Warriors

Chase: Catching the eye of Wigan Warriors

Man of Steel Rangi Chase admits he would be interested in a move to Wigan amid rumours the Stobart Super League leaders are poised to make a big cash bid for the Castleford stand-off.

Chase, 26, is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2015 after signing a two-year extension to his existing deal last September, but it is thought the Yorkshire club would be tempted by an offer of £350,000 for him.

Wigan are searching for new half-backs to replace Thomas Leuluai and Brett Finch, who are both returning to Australia's NRL at the end of the year, and have been linked with moves for Chase and Salford's Matty Smith.

Chase, speaking at England's training camp in Loughborough where he is preparing for Saturday's game against the Exiles, says he is in the dark over the rumours but confesses a move to the Warriors could be appealing.

"I don't know where it's come from," he said. "I haven't been told anything, by Cas or Wigan or anybody.

"I'd be a liar if I was sitting here saying I wouldn't go. You'd be silly not to think about something like that. Anyone would.

"I admire the way Wigan play. They're so tough and relentless. They're the teams you want to play with."

Warrington are also thought to have shown an interest in Chase, who pipped Sam Tomkins and James Roby to become Super League's Man of Steel in 2011.

Wigan set the record for the game's biggest record transfer fee when they paid £440,000 to Bradford for prop Stuart Fielden in 2006.
