Three players will make their international debuts when England face the Exiles in Saturday's Origin opener at Langtree Park.

England coach Steve McNamara confirmed that Wigan winger Josh Charnley and Leeds centre Carl Ablett will both start, with another new face, Wigan forward Lee Mossop, on the bench.

Charnley, Stobart Super League's leading try-scorer with 22 touchdowns so far this season, replaces Hull winger Tom Briscoe, while Ablett got the nod ahead of Huddersfield centre Leroy Cudjoe.

There are recalls for Warrington centre Ryan Atkins and Wigan forward Gareth Hock, who will line up alongside his club captain Sean O'Loughlin and Hull's Danny Tickle in a new-look back row.

McNamara keeps faith with half-backs Kevin Sinfield and Rangi Chase, which means there is no place for Huddersfield scrum-half Danny Brough, who is omitted from the initial 21-strong squad, along with St Helens forward Jon Wilkin.

"It has been a really tough decision in naming the 17," said McNamara.

"The four players who have missed out are disappointed and could have quite easily featured.

"That is the nature of international sport and it is gratifying that we have real quality in the squad that the likes of Tom Briscoe, Danny Brough, Jon Wilkin and Leroy Cudjoe miss out this time. They will respond and will be stronger for the experience.

"The make-up of the side looks very exciting, with the right blend of youth and experience.

"We are expecting a major test against the Exiles and the intensity, if last year's match is anything to go by, will be like playing a Test match against Australia or New Zealand."

Exiles coach Daniel Anderson has called Huddersfield's Samoan forward David Fa'alogo into his squad following a spate of withdrawals and has chosen St Helens' utility player Lance Hohaia at hooker.

"It's a good team," said the former St Helens coach. "It's been a good week.

"We've had a few hurdles to get over to get to an 18-man squad. It's been difficult with injuries making players unavailable but we've settled on this squad and they've come together really well."
