Deans: Believes Scotland can punch above their weight

Deans: Believes Scotland can punch above their weight

Australia coach Robbie Deans insists his side will not underestimate Scotland when they clash in June.

The Wallabies will take on the Scots in Newcastle on June 5, with few giving Andy Robinson's side much of a chance.

While Australia finished third at the World Cup, Scotland bowed out in the pool stages and then finished with the wooden spoon in the Six Nations after five defeats.

However Deans said: "While Scotland is coming off a disappointing Six Nations, they are a team that has traditionally punched above their weight internationally, especially when under-rated.

"We experienced that three years ago in Edinburgh (Australia lost 9-8) and will not be taking for granted the threat that they pose."

Deans will name his starting XV and replacements on June 3, to allow selectors to weigh up any injury concerns out of the Super Rugby action that weekend.
