Russell: Will coach Newcastle

Newcastle have appointed New Zealander Peter Russell as head coach.

The former Hawkes Bay boss was an assistant at the Otago Highlanders and made a century of appearances for Wellington as a fly-half.

Russell will assist new director of rugby Dean Richards at Kingston Park.

"Improving the Falcons' position will be the aim and with good things in place and some good people around me we can achieve that," Russell said.
