Marko Djokovic failed to claim the first ATP World Tour win of his career at the Serbia Open in Belgrade as the 20-year-old brother of world number one Novak fell 6-3 6-1 to Italy's Filippo Volandri.
With reigning champion Novak absent this year, the younger Djokovic was the only hope of keeping the famous name on the trophy but it was always going to be a big test for the world number 878.
Volandri, ranked 73 in the world, broke Djokovic twice in each set and did not face a single break point against his serve as he required just 59 minutes to coast to an emphatic victory.
There was some good news for Serbia as another wild card, Dusan Lajovic, beat Russia's Evgeny Donskoy 7-5 6-4, while Croatia's Ivan Dodig was a 6-2 6-7 (4/7) 6-4 winner over Adrian Ungur of Romania.
