Anne Keothavong is back as British number one for the first time since 2009 - and now looks set to represent GB at the London Olympics.
The 28-year-old climbs five places from 81st to 76th in the latest WTA ranking list after reaching the semi-finals of the AEGON Trophy in Nottingham last week.
She replaces Elena Baltacha, who falls from 68th to 91st after failing to defend her title in Midlands.
Keothavong said on her official website: "Being back as British number one is a good feeling.
"It's a position I lost when I injured my knee in 2009 and was out of the game for six months and it hasn't been easy for me ever since I came back.
"I still believe I can get myself back inside the world's top 50 and that keeps me motivated and challenged each day."
The Olympic cut-off point was on Monday and no Briton is among the 56 players currently expected to be eligible to claim automatic entry into the tournament.
However, a player from the host nation looks sure to be handed one of the wild cards and as Britain's number one on the cut-off date, Keothavong is expected to get it.
The Lawn Tennis Association is lobbying the International Tennis Federation, who run the Olympic tournament, for two wild cards but if they are not successful Baltacha looks set to agonisingly miss out.
Former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova also looks set to miss the Games.
The Russian is now ranked fifth in her country and with each nation allowed only four spots in the singles draw, Kuznetsova seems set to be absent when play starts at Wimbledon's All England Club on July 28.
Another top-40 player, Germany's Mona Barthel, is set to miss out under the same rule.
However, the highest-ranked player likely to be absent is world number eight Marion Bartoli. She is ineligible having not played for her country in enough Fed Cup ties following a row with the French Tennis Federation.
Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, whose place had been in doubt following her second-round exit at the recent French Open, does make the field. She is currently the third-ranked American.
The full list of Olympic entries, including the doubles, will be confirmed by the ITF on June 28.
