Lisa Whybourn: Wimbledon bid was ended

Britain's last surviving singles representative in the Wimbledon qualfiers, Lisa Whybourn, is out after losing to Sesil Karatantcheva on Wednesday at Roehampton.

The 21-year-old, who made the final round of qualifying two years ago, was the only Briton to reach the second round but went down 5-7 6-4 6-0 to the former world number 35.

It had looked good for the Cambridgeshire player as she carried on where she had left off on Tuesday in beating Germany's Sarah Gronert 6-1 4-6 6-4 in her first-round tie.

But Kazakhstan's Karatantcheva, seeded fifth for the event, hit back strongly after losing the opening set to progress to round three for the loss of just four more games.
