Fourth seed Andy Roddick advanced to the quarter-finals of the ATP BB&T Atlanta Open on Wednesday with a straight-sets victory over his French Open conqueror Nicolas Mahut.
Roddick, who lost to Mahut in the first round at Roland Garros earlier this year, prevailed 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 in one hour 37 minutes after rain had delayed the start of the match by almost five hours in Georgia.
He will face compatriot Michael Russell in the last eight after the 34-year-old upset fifth-seeded South African Kevin Anderson 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 6-4.
There will be an all-Japanese clash in one of the other quarter-finals after third seed Kei Nishikori and eighth seed Go Soeda both progressed.
Nishikori battled for a 6-4 6-7 (7/9) 6-4 success against Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis, while Soeda enjoyed a smoother 6-1 7-5 passage against Russia's Igor Kunitsyn.
