Bartoli: Fought back from a set down

Top seed Marion Bartoli endured a major scare against world number 161 Chan Yung-Jan before advancing to the final of the WTA Mercury Insurance Open on Saturday night in Carlsbad, California.

The world number 10 from France was outclassed in the first set by the 22-year-old qualifier from Chinese Taipei, but battled back to post a 1-6 6-3 6-3 victory.

Bartoli will face Dominika Cibulkova in the final after the Slovakian second seed defeated fourth-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 7-6 (10/8) 6-1 earlier in the day.

The first set was a tight affair but Petrova faded badly in the second and Cibulkova breezed through it to remain on course for her first WTA Tour title of the year.
