Top seed and defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga held off veteran Nikolay Davydenko to reach the final of the Moselle Open in Metz on Saturday.
The world number seven got off to a spectacular start as he broke the Russian three times in succession to take the first set 6-0.
But Davydenko rallied to take the tie into a deciding set, where Tsonga was able to grab the single crucial break of serve to triumph 6-0 3-6 6-4 in one hour and 47 minutes.
Tsonga will meet Andreas Seppi for the title after the Italian denied the home fans an all-French final with a 3-6 6-1 6-4 victory over Gael Monfils.
