Top seed and former champion Mikhail Youzhny suffered semi-final defeat in his home St Petersburg Open as he lost out in a near-four hour marathon to Martin Klizan.
The third-seeded Klizan missed his chance to serve out for victory in the final set but held his nerve in the resulting tie-break to round off a 6-7 (11/13) 6-4 7-6 (7/3) success.
Klizan will go head to head with Italy's Fabio Fognini in Sunday's final, after the world number 53 saw off Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3 6-4 in 79 minutes.
